Psalm 9:11-12 says, "Sing the praises of the Lord, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done. For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cries of the afflicted."
In these verses, we find a profound reminder of God’s attentive compassion and unchanging justice. It is comforting to know that God sees every moment of suffering, every injustice, and every cry of the heart. He doesn’t overlook the pain or struggles of the oppressed; rather, He hears the cries of those who are hurting and remembers each one. This truth gives us peace and hope, especially as parents who want our children to know God’s compassion and justice.
As we journey through life’s challenges, it is easy to feel alone in our pain or to wonder if God notices our struggles. Yet these verses reassure us that God does more than simply watch—He actively responds. God is close to the broken hearted and champions the cause of the afflicted. When we face trials, we can be confident that our loving Father is aware, near, and at work on our behalf.
One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is a strong sense of God’s justice and compassion. As they grow, they will face times of hardship or witness injustice in the world around them. Teaching them to turn to God in these moments helps them build a faith that is rooted in His goodness. When they know that God sees and cares deeply, they find comfort and strength in Him, even during the hardest times.
We can encourage our children to have hearts of compassion for others, too, just as God has compassion for each of us. When they see us responding with empathy and kindness, they learn that God’s love is meant to be shared. By fostering this trust in His justice and love, we help our children develop a faith that will sustain them, no matter what they face.
Let’s take a moment to lift our hearts to God in prayer.
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for being a God of justice and compassion. When we feel overwhelmed by trials or when we witness suffering around us, remind us that You see, You remember, and You care. Help us to teach our children about Your deep compassion for those who are hurting. May we guide them to trust in Your goodness, to find comfort in Your presence, and to be reflections of Your love to others. Thank You for hearing our cries and for being with us every step of the way.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
