Let me share my secret to making life exactly what I want, no matter the circumstances - it is perspective!! Perspective is like a magic wand you get to wave over your life to make everything better.

Not convinced yet? Let me explain it a little bit more...

Who do expect yourself to be when things get tricky? How do you expect yourself to feel when things don't go to plan - when the baby doesn't have a good nap, when it rains, when the cookie batter gets spilt all over the floor? Do you expect yourself to get frustrated, yell, be grumpy, or view the whole day as ruined?

Who you tell yourself you are, or how you will behave, is exactly how you will show up. But what if you changed the narrative, what if you changed your perspective?

What if the short nap turned into a good excuse for a walk outside and a sleep in the pram? What if the rainy day turned into a fun day at home building a fort and reading books together? What if the spilt cookie batter turned into an opportunity to laugh and teach your children how to work together to clean up a mess?

What if you told yourself you are fun, creative, patient and joyful? How would that perspective change the way you approach life when things are tricky or don't go to plan?

I had been really excited to take my kids to the beach today. But, my baby had a very short morning nap and was grumpy. My toddler took a very long time to each his lunch. So by the time we got out the door, I knew we were only going to have half an hour for a swim before needing to come home for another nap. But I thought, I have been looking forward to this all week so we will just make the most of the time we have. Then when we got there, the waves were crazy! The ocean pool was like a tide pool and was overflowing. I knew there was no way we could swim in those conditions, and the tide was so high that there was not even any sand to play on. And we did not have time to check out any other beaches. So we went home. And honestly, I was so bummed. But I knew I did not want to get stuck in my thoughts of "of course this happened to me, why do my plans never work?, why couldn't the kids cooperate?, now the whole day is ruined".

So, instead, we set up the sprinkler outside and got some water toys. And you know what? We all had so much fun together! And having fun outside together was the objective anyway. I realised it didn't matter where we did that, or if it looked like I had initially planned. I let my perspective on the situation serve me.

Change your perspective, change your life.

Do your thoughts serve you? Do they help you show up as the parent you want to be no matter the circumstances? Or are you stuck in a victim mentality? There is nothing like a victim mentality to steal your joy!

Is it time to change the narrative?
